NEWS RELEASE
Workforce Tomorrow - 13 February 2006
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), on behalf of the Australian Government, is conducting a series of free industry and employer breakfasts in all capital cities and many regional towns across Australia from mid February to June 2006.
The Illawarra Business Chamber together with Australian Business Limited have long supported the need for government, industry and business to find effective solutions to beating the growing skills shortages in Australia.
Our Regional and Rural Skills Shortages survey of 2000 businesses conducted last year showed that 60 percent of member businesses were negatively affected by a lack of skills.
“It’s one of the largest challenges many businesses face, and hence businesses need to look to the broad range of options available, from up skilling existing workers, and new apprenticeships through to skilled migration,” said Illawarra Business Chamber CEO, Mark Grimson.
“The Illawarra Business Chamber encourages all of its members to attend the breakfast series which will take place in Wollongong on 9 March and is designed to inform industry and employers about the labour supply challenges their industry and businesses will face in the coming years.”
Each event features a prominent speaker and attendees will receive an information kit containing examples of how businesses are managing their recruitment strategies to ensure they remain viable and competitive.
Places are strictly limited and while the event is free, members are urged to make a booking by registering at www.workforcetomorrow.com.au and quoting CHAM112.
