NSW Coalition Policy is Right for Small Business
The Illawarra Business Chamber has welcomed the last week’s release of the NSW Coalition’s policy on red tape and small business.
“This policy firmly sets the NSW Coalition on a strategy of reducing the regulatory burden on NSW small businesses”, said Mark Grimson.
“Just last week the IBC welcomed the IPART Report into red tape saying it was a job well done. This policy goes further by adopting a policy of “one-on, one-off”, setting targets for red tape reduction and making the reduction of red tape a key performance indicator for government agencies.
“IPART correctly pointed out that we need a greater focus within Government of the costs and benefits of every regulation. This policy reflects that approach and seeks to integrate a red tape reduction approach across Government.
“Premier Bracks only last week set a similar goal of cutting red tape by 15% and Tony Blair has successfully introduced “one-on, one-off”.
“In the past, most red tape reviews have failed because they have not dealt with regulatory creep. This policy, not only seeks to cut red tape, but also put a cap on its growth through “one-on, one-off”.
Mr Grimson said with low economic growth rates, petrol price rises and rising rate rises, it was more important than ever to ease the regulatory burden for small businesses in NSW.
“There are significant economic pressures coming to bear on NSW. NSW businesses need Government to pursue an approach that continually seeks to reduce the regulatory burden of businesses throughout the State.
