Business welcomes streamlining of infrastructure red tape
Illawarra’s leading business organisation, Illawarra Business Chamber has welcomed the NSW Government’s commitment to cut planning red tape and the appointment of an Infrastructure Coordinator-General to roll out the NSW’s share of the stimulus package as quickly as possible.
“The business community welcomes the Premier’s commitment to streamlining planning policies and getting to work on investing the funds from the Federal Government into new infrastructure immediately,” said Les Dion, President of Illawarra Business Chamber.
“The appointment of an Infrastructure Coordinator-General will ensure these infrastructure projects are not hindered by bureaucratic roadblocks.”
Mr Dion said that time was of the essence to ensure that the NSW economy got the full benefit of the infrastructure stimulus package.
“A quick start on construction and delivery of these projects will assist businesses in creating jobs and will have a flow on effect through the economy, especially in regional NSW.
“The changes to planning policies are appropriate for the urgency of the economic situation that we find ourselves in.
“NSW was able to deliver one of the best Olympics in history and under the leadership of Mr Bob Leece. We are confident that programs for construction in schools, social housing and roads will be delivered in a similar fashion.” Mr Dion concluded.
